Construction System

Structure

The structure of the whole building is made of solid wood supporting walls, consisting of sectioned partitions of between 70 - 90 mm thick, stipulated in each project, build on and anchored to the foundations, as specified by our construction method.

Roof

The roofs are sloped and ventilated depending on the designer in each case.

As in the case of the -- , the main supporting structure is made with principal joists or rafters resting at the crown on tie beams, with the end of each frontal wall panel acting as sleepers or sill plates and which will be mortised and slotted into the corresponding notch made about 40 cm from the bottom of the rafters.

Through this joint, each wall panel is made weathertight and sealed to each of the elements in the roof structure, thus forming a continuous winged cantilever.

Over the rafters, as with the --, phenolic plywood boards, or solid wood boards, are screwed down, always keeping to the structure seen.

On top of the boards, and coinciding with the principal joists, battens similar to those used in the - are screwed down and the gaps in between are filled with thermal-acoustic insulation.

As basic waterproofing and vapour barrier, the whole roof is covered with a waterproof,

breathable membrane attached to the battens with cross-battens, which also anchor the roof tiles chosen by the designer.

Other options of roof covering are those offered by specialist companies, such as the 'TECTUM' system from 'Uralite'.

Ceiling

The - between the ground and first floors is generally unidirectional, except in those projects requiring special measures, and made up of wooden joists, 16.5 x 6.5 cm in the cross-section, fitted to supporting walls with metal joist anchors, or are joined using a mortise and tenon, and are then screwed to the inwall panel.

The space between joists will depend on the structural calculations, but should never exceed 60 cm between shafts.

Depending on the project, the ceiling is a 12 mm-thick plywood board or a 20 mm-thick solid wood board screwed on to the joists.

Over this, and transversal to the joists, a series of battens is screwed down, the edges of which are 45 mm , and topped with a strip of 3 mm-thick rubber to break the acoustic bridge by percussion between the batten on which it lies and the flooring to be laid on top.

The space between the battens is filled with mineral wool or fibreglass as soundproofing.

Depending on the type of flooring chosen for each room or area on the upper floor, over the strip of rubber on the battens, a 16 mm-thick water repellent subfloor is laid, on top of which the flooring is glued using a highly elastic adhesive, or the laminated wooden flooring, which should not be less than 20 mm thick, is nailed.

All this is finished off underneath with wooden pieces between the joists and above with skirting boards of the same material.

Fundations

Generally, while the ground requires no special measures, the foundations are a concrete base, or footing, H250, 15 cm thick on average, anchored by hoops around the edge and finished off with 3 mm of electrowelded wire fabric, all of which lies on a 15 cm bed of gravel.

Carpintery

We suggest two window options:

1. Wooden window and shutter designed and manufactured by ourselves.

2. Wooden frame and shutter with aluminium window (Technal or similar), both double-glazed.

Both outside and inside doors are solid wood and designed and manufactured by ourselves.

Preventiv treatment and wood finishes

Each and every one of the wooden parts of our constructions have been previously treated in autoclave against fungi, xylophagous insects and dimensional movement. They have been finished with three coats of micro-porous varnish ( colour to be decided) with ultra violet protectors, which do not clog the wood, but allow the wood to breathe naturally.
